Course Content

Teenagers often struggle with questions regarding their identity, self-worth, and their place in the world. They are called to navigate complex relationships with family, friends, teachers, and society and often encounter conflicts and challenges in communication and understanding. They experience intense emotions, stress, and anxiety due to academic pressures, social dynamics, and personal challenges.

Establishing a firm direction in life, identifying the right action, and having the strength to perform it, is an achievement, especially in the face of peer pressure, emotional turmoil, anxiety, academic pressure, and moral dilemmas. The Bhagavad Gita is a guide that can support a person throughout their life.

In the course Growing up with the Gita, we will explore concepts such as Janma, Mrtyu, Karma, Dharma, Jnana, Sankhya, Yoga, Bhakti, Prakriti, Guna, Purusha, Brahman, Daiva, Asura, Moksha and so on. These lead us naturally to such questions such as 1) Who am I? 2) Where am I? 3) Why am I here? 4) What should I do? 5) Is there a higher power? 6) What is my relationship with that power? 7) How do I live a successful life? And 8) What is success? And so on.

As students navigate these concepts and questions, they will also develop a deep relationship with this immortal text, and at the same time, will get ready for the ‘Gita Pariksha’ test.

Class Structure

1. The course will consist of a total of ten sessions, each lasting 60 minutes.

2. Students will actively participate in the classes through a combination of lectures, engaging activities, and interactive dialogues.

3. Students will be given reading assignments in between classes. These classes and assignments will prepare the students for the Gita Pariksha Test.

4. The Gita Pariksha Test is NOT mandatory, and the students can successfully complete the ‘Growing up with the Gita’ course without taking the test.

We will add 2 classes in the last 2 weeks of July – July 21 – July 22 and July 28 – July 29.

July 28 and July 29 – The students will present in the class.
