Course Content

The Yakṣa-praśna, or Yakṣa-Yudhiṣṭhira Saṁvāda, is one of the most profound and revered dialogues in the Mahābhārata, occurring in the Vana Parva. This episode presents a thought-provoking exchange between Yudhiṣṭhira and a Yakṣa, who tests his wisdom through a series of penetrating questions. Covering themes of dharma, ethical dilemmas, and existential truths, this dialogue not only showcases Yudhiṣṭhira’s unwavering adherence to righteousness but also provides timeless insights into life’s fundamental principles.
This course offers an in-depth study of select verses from Yakṣa-praśna, focusing on Sanskrit grammar (Vyākaraṇa), syntax, and literary structures. Students will engage with the text through recitation, anvaya (prose order), grammatical analysis, and interpretation. By doing so, they will refine their inguistic skills, enhance their comprehension of classical Sanskrit, and develop an appreciation for the metrical and stylistic intricacies of this epic dialogue.
