SAN8105 - Yoga Advanced course provides an in-depth study of Patañjali's Yogasūtras through immersive textual analysis, focusing on Bhāva-Ganeśa's intricate Pradīpika Commentary. The curriculum emphasizes the Sādhana Pāda (2nd chapter), which elaborates on the Aṣṭāṅgas (Eight Limbs) of yoga. Students will explore the path to well-being by understanding key Indian psychological concepts such as Kleṣas, Karma, Karmāśaya, and Kaivalya. Mastery of ethics, postures, breath control, and concentration leading to meditation and enlightenment will be a central theme. Additionally, the course addresses yogic solutions to mental health challenges, enabling students to design personalized practices and guide others. In this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the components of Aṣṭāṅgayoga.
  • Extrapolate the practical applications of yoga in treating prevalent physiological and psychological ailments.
  • Appraise the Sūtras of Sādhanā-pāda of Yoga-sūtras using the Yoga-pradīpikā commentary.
  • Formulate personalized sādhanas based on one’s own level of commitment and progress.
  • Revise the sādhana to eliminate any impediment encountered, with the guidance of the teacher.

Class Structure

Each MAS course comprises 45 hours of teaching and with 2 quizzes and 2 assignments. The number of assignments and quizzes change subject to faculty discretion. Final exams for all courses conducted at the end of the semester.
