Course Description

HSF1004 – (CHCS – Core Course) “Exploring Hinduism – Society and Culture”, is the fourth and final course in the series titled “Exploring Hinduism” that will examine how, despite these various dimensions, this civilization has had a common culture, the Bharatiya Kalachar. It will help understand why the Hindus are considered to be the most adaptable, accommodating and assimilating people in the world and how the Hindu Civilization has been a hallmark for Unity and Diversity. It will also throw light on factors that have caused a substantial breakdown of this Hindu Society and its flourish. It will clear the wrong understanding of the Hindu Society and break the myths that have wrongly dubbed it as a patriarchal, male dominated, oppressive, rigid, stratified, regressive society.

Dr. D. K. Hema Hari

Dr. D.K Hema Hari was born in Mysore and grew up in Bombay. She double graduated in Physics and in Computer Technology from Bombay University. She has been a PMI certified Project Management Professional for 12 years. She started her career in Tata Consultancy Services in 1989 and after spending the first 10 years of her career there, moved to CSC India, where she spent the next decade of her career, in a Senior management capacity.

Dr. D.K. Hari Damal Kandadai

Dr. Damal.Kandadai.Hari hails from an Indian traditional family, with its roots in Kancheepuram, a very ancient town of India, which has been the silk center of the South through the ages and is also known for its age-old temples, saints and scholars. He had his schooling in Rishi Valley School, then graduated from Madras Christian College and did his postgraduation in Business Administration from P.S.G College of Technology, Coimbatore.

This course spans 10 sessions of 100 minutes each. These sessions will cover aspects of the Society and Culture of the Hindu Civilization such as:

  • Breakdown of Hindu Prosperity

  • Aspects of Bharatiya Culture
  • Idea of Bharat and Bharatiya Kalachar

This course, coming in the series of courses titled “Exploring Hinduism”, will widen people’s understanding about Hindu Society and its organization. This course will take the explorer to the core of the Hindu civilization to fathom the weave that makes up the fabric of the Hindu Civilization. It will showcase how the various dimensions of a Hindu life are interlaced together, to form the intricately woven fabric called the Hindu Samaj.

This course will also throw light on how, despite these various dimensions, this civilization has had a common culture, the Bharatiya Kalachar. It will help understand why the Hindus are considered to be the most adaptable, accommodating and assimilating people in the world and how the Hindu Civilization has been a hallmark for Unity and Diversity.

It will also throw light on factors that have caused a substantial breakdown of this Hindu Society and its flourish. It will clear the wrong understanding of the Hindu Society and break the myths that have wrongly dubbed it as a patriarchal, male dominated, oppressive, rigid, stratified, regressive society.
This course is open to all – with or without Indian or Hindu roots, wherever they may be in the world.
Being a credit course, it can be taken by students to satisfy academic goals.

For those in active professions, it will open their minds to a larger perspective of gender balance, organization, social frameworks and cooperation.
This course is also open to teens with their friends, parents as well as grandparents, either together or separately, to take discussion and contemplation from beyond the course window, into the portals of home, family and society.

This course is part of a Certificate Program of the University and credits will be awarded on successful completion of the program.
It can also be taken as a standalone course, in which case, participants will get a Course Completion document with course grade at the end of this course.

Class Structure

The Course has been designed as 10 sessions that go to build up the picture successively. Course will be covered with 1 online session of 100 minutes each, per week.
