Course Description

HSF1002 – (CHCS – Core Course) “Exploring Hinduism – Divinities and Dharma”, is the second course in the series titled “Exploring Hinduism” that will help discern the various Divinities in the Hindu Pantheon and see Hindu thought manifested as Science, Spirituality, Symbolism, Philosophy, Religion, Rituals, Tradition, Art and Culture.  This course will also throw light on the significant term in Hinduism, called Dharma. It will help see and understand this pivot around which Hinduism and all other religions born out of India are based and which forms a common thread tying them all together as Dharmic orders of the world.

Dr. D. K. Hema Hari

Dr. D.K Hema Hari was born in Mysore and grew up in Bombay. She double graduated in Physics and in Computer Technology from Bombay University. She has been a PMI certified Project Management Professional for 12 years. She started her career in Tata Consultancy Services in 1989 and after spending the first 10 years of her career there, moved to CSC India, where she spent the next decade of her career, in a Senior management capacity.

Dr. D.K. Hari Damal Kandadai

Dr. Damal.Kandadai.Hari hails from an Indian traditional family, with its roots in Kancheepuram, a very ancient town of India, which has been the silk center of the South through the ages and is also known for its age-old temples, saints and scholars. He had his schooling in Rishi Valley School, then graduated from Madras Christian College and did his postgraduation in Business Administration from P.S.G College of Technology, Coimbatore.

In this course Exploring Hinduism, students will

  • Discover how religions world over have been born from an understanding of the Process of Creation
  • Learn about the process of Creation as explained in Hindu thought
  • Discern the Divinities that were born with the Hindu science of Creation
  • Learn of the 4 corner stones of a Hindu way of living – the 4 Purushartha
  • Understand why this civilization has therefore also come to be called Sanatana Dharma
  • Discover when and how this religion came to be called Hinduism and who is a Hindu?
  • Gain insight from all these, into the ways of worship of the Hindus
  • Discern religion from philosophy, spirituality and way of living.

This course spans 10 sessions of 100 minutes each. These sessions will cover aspects of the Divinities and Dharma of the Hindu Civilization such as:

  • Celebrating the DivineWhy did the Hindus need and discern so many, countless Divinities? Are they really that many? What do they stand for and why are they represented the way they are? Are they real, conceptual or historical? Answers to such questions and more await the students in this course “Exploring Hinduism – Divinities and Dharma”, a part of a series of courses that facilitate a structured exploration of various facets of one of the world’s most ancient families of traditions.Coming in this series of courses, the course, titled “Exploring Hinduism – Divinities and Dharma”, will help discern the various Divinities in the Hindu Pantheon and see Hindu thought manifested as Science, Spirituality, Symbolism, Philosophy, Religion, Rituals, Tradition, Art and Culture.This course will also throw light on the significant term in Hinduism, called Dharma. It will help see and understand this pivot around which Hinduism and all other religions born out of India are based and which forms a common thread tying them all together as Dharmic orders of the world.This course is open to all – with or without Indian or Hindu roots, wherever they may be in the world.Being a credit course, it can be taken by students to satisfy academic goals.For those in active professions, it will open their minds to a larger perspective of existence and will help them tread a balanced path with a sense of righteousness.This course is also open to teens with their friends, parents as well as grandparents, either together or separately, to take discussion and contemplation from beyond the course window, into the portals of home, family and society.This course is part of a Certificate Program of the University and credits will be awarded on successful completion of the program.
