A North Wales curry house has won a top award. Sbeis347 in Bangor landed the "Best Newcomer" accolade at the biggest event in the Asian culinary calendar.

The glittering gala dinner and presentation ceremony the EuroAsia Curry Awards 2023 was held at the Mayfair Venue London last week. The event was attended by Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Councillors, celebrities and food critics.

The list of over 200 restaurants across the country was whittled down to the top hundred by judges who decided the eventual finalists. Four North Wales eateries had been shortlisted as North Wales Live reported back in September.

Sbeis@347, which takes its name from the number on its address on Bangor High Street, won the "Best Newcomer in Wales" award, Judging criteria included:

  • Hygiene rating which is five
  • Food (quality of food, ingredients, taste, presentation, authenticity and originality)
  • Customer Service (Staff Attitude, Manager Attitude, Comfort and Ambience)
  • Cleanliness/Health & Safety (Food & Kitchen, Washroom and Eatery)

Sbeis spokesman Abdul Harid said: "The premises were closed and empty for over one year. I occupied the premises early this year and renovated to make it a quality fine dining restaurant for People of Bangor.

"The award winning head chef Masum Ahmed made a huge contribution towards winning this prestigious award."
