A young woman has died suddenly after falling ill at a dance event. South Wales Police said the 21-year-old was taken ill at an event in Butetown, Cardiff, in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 2.

Walesonline report that the incident happened at a techno music event at Vaults underground dance venue on Bute Street. Another event scheduled to take place at the venue on Saturday night was cancelled.

The venue declined to comment but said it would do so in due course.

A statement from the force on Saturday described the woman's death as "sudden and unexplained." An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Vaults is located in the basement of Portland House, a historic building which formerly hosted a bank, and primarily hosts techno, house and drum 'n' bass events.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "Police in Cardiff are investigating the sudden and unexplained death of a 21-year-old woman who was taken ill at an event in Butetown in the early hours of Saturday morning."
