Tucked away from the busier shopping districts of Bangor there's a small and easily missed bakery that has people clamouring to visit. Once you step in, you'll find yourself in a wonderland of cakes and sweet treats, all bound to tickle your fancy.

That is, of course, assuming you can find Homebaked Delights in the first place, as it sits at the bottom of Coed Mawr hill and not near any other shops. The small storefront sits attached to a residential home, creating a quaint hub of tasty treats, that even manages to fit in a few tables and chairs outside.

To find it, either park at the nearby McDonald's or at the end of Coed Mawr, cross the street and head towards the city centre, you'll spot it within just a minute or two. Currently open six days a week, it has already become a favourite spot to pop in to for tasty treat.

After driving past the shop a few times I'd been meaning to pop in for a visit myself, though its unusual location meant I didn't often find myself stopping in that area. Eventually, I decided enough was enough, and that if really wanted to try Homebaked Delights out, I'd have to head out to do exactly that.

So that's what I did one Tuesday mid-afternoon, stepping into the small space, a counter on the left and on the right a large glass cake filled with a variety of cakes of every flavour. The space was cosy, though the sunny weather and proximity to the kitchen meant it was getting quite warm - though all the cakes were still kept fresh and cool.

Despite it being the first day open in the week, many of the cakes on offer had already gone. A thought struck me, for an out of the way business, that has only been opened a few months back and to still be selling out of several trays of cakes - it must be pretty good.

Thankfully the owner had still put out an extensive collection to choose from, so even with a few empty trays facing me, I still had plenty to choose from. I decided to pick up a variety to try, telling myself I'd get them and share them out with my loved ones, which I did - after I'd tried a little of each myself.

Guilty overindulgences aside, I tried four cakes in total, a donut with a white chocolate and chocolate pieces topping, a custard slice, a muffin with some bright and colourful icing, topped with a pink wafer and a blueberry and a cherry custard puff. All in all they were each very tasty and well made, each was as much a visual treat as it was an actual one.

Of all of them the blueberry and cherry custard puff was my favourite, though it was a close call, the zingy mix of flavours just swung it for me. A special mention does have to go to the donut though, which was perhaps the nicest donut I've had in a long while, fresh, soft, delicately made, almost as if I were eating a cloud.

Give this was just a small selection of the cakes on offer, I was inclined to head back for round two, though the thought of adding another gym visit to my list, soon put me off. That said, when I do fancy grabbing a fresh and tasty cake from Bangor again, I know exactly where to head and now hopefully so do you.
