Those of you who regularly read my reviews will know that when it comes to takeaways I try to err on the positive side - mainly because I love my food. Not everyone is so positive however and online reviews can be extremely polarising and, in all honesty, often misleading.

One such place which has proven to be a bit like Marmite is Efe's in Prestatyn. Tripadvisor reviews range from the sublime to the ridiculous - with not a lot in between.

Armed with this information, and my interest well and truly piqued, I thought it was time to pay them a visit. I ordered over the phone and the friendly gentleman informed me my food would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived after 15 minutes and my order was ready - so the service was excellent.

The shop itself, located near the top end of the town's thriving High Street, was very impressive. Clean, ample seating and an impressive array of TV menus above the counter.

After collecting my food I decided to keep on driving straight upwards (almost literally) to the top of Gwaenysgor Hill - one of my favourite vantage points in the area. I took my seat and opened up the packaging.

I went for a quarter pounder special burger with fries - which set me back £8. Sadly, they didn't put any mayo on the fries as requested which left them a little bit bland. Disappointing.

The burger itself more than made up for the below-par fries however - delicious doner meat on a sublime-tasting patty. This was a real treat and well worth the money.

So while the fries weren't the best, the burger was superb and I'd definitely recommend a visit - as well as the short drive up the steep hill to enjoy the stunning views around the coast and Vale of Clwyd. It just goes to show that while online reviews can be useful, it's always better to get out there and give these local establishments a try.
