The Met Office has issued a weather warning for wind for North Wales as Storm Debi hits the region. The latest storm to strike the UK is sweeping in, with forecaster warning of "very strong and disruptive winds on Monday".

North Wales has been put under a yellow wind alert, covering the six counties, Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. The alert is in force between 4am and 6pm on Monday.

The Met Office has warned of wind speeds up to 80mph on the coast, with possible travel disruption, power cuts and "danger to life" from flying debris and from waves and beach material "thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties". A Met Office forecast said: "Storm Debi is expected to develop and move across Ireland and northern England on Monday.

"Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the exact track and depth of this low, there is a chance of very strong westerly winds developing along Irish Sea coasts of Wales and northwest England on Monday morning before extending inland during [the] day, slowly easing later. There is a chance of 60-65mph gusts developing inland and 70-80mph around coasts, and over some higher ground, such as the Pennines."

Storm Debi follows on from two other storms to hit Wales and the UK in recent weeks, Storm Babet and Storm Ciaran, which caused major disruption.
