As a keen mountain walker, I have summited most of the highest mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) in the past and often I like to prepare for the climb by enjoying a hearty breakfast beforehand. One place which I have found does the trick is the fantastic Caffi Siabod in Capel Curig.

Located just off the A5, at the foot of the imposing Moel Siabod (from which the cafe gets its name), Caffi Siabod is a place I used to frequent semi-regularly. However, after not having been since before Covid I thought it was time for another visit.

I arrived at the cafe around 2.30pm on a gloriously sunny Thursday afternoon. The cafe was full of mountaineers and hikers, some of whom I discovered were in the area training ahead of a trip to the Andes in South America.

I took a quick look at the menu and decided on the all-day brunch - two sausages, two fried eggs, chips and beans. The brunch came in at a slightly expensive £9.65.

That being said, the price is probably around the same as you'd pay in most restaurants for a similar meal and given its location in the heart of Eryri and during a period of high influx of tourists perhaps it isn't too far off the mark.

In terms of portion size, there were certainly no complaints from me, there was plenty on my tray and moe than enough to stock up on calories ahead of a trek up and down a 3,000ft mountain.

I decided to park up in the middle of Capel Curig to enjoy the stunning views across Llynnau Mymbyr towards Yr Wyddfa. It was comfortably the best view I've ever experienced whilst tucking into a brunch, that's for sure.

The food itself was very impressive, the sausages were the highlight - locally sourced and of the finest quality. In fact the whole combination of beautifully fluffy oven chips, deliciously soft fried eggs, tasty BBQ-style baked beans and the sausages - tremendous.

So to conclude, I was delighted that the standards at Caffi Siabod are as high as ever and whilst you might pay a little bit extra for a breakfast or brunch than you would at your local high street cafe - the picturesque surroundings and fabulous food is a combination well worth an extra couple of quid.
