British pop giants Madness will be heading to North Wales next summer. The Nutty Boys, currently topping the albums chart, are to join the line-up for the 2024 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

The group has included the Llangollen date, on Saturday, July 13, as part of a 19-date summer tour. The gig was confirmed after their 13th studio album, Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie, became their first to top the UK official albums chart on Friday.

“Would you Adam and Eve it?!” they said. “It only took us 40 years to get there but we’ve just gone and ruddy scored our first Number One album and we thought, what better way to celebrate than to announce a summer tour?!”

The headlining show is the latest to stem from a new partnership between the International Eisteddfod and Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor (C&T). Already announced for the 2024 festival are Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers, Suede, Paloma Faith, Jess Glynne and disco legends Nile Rodgers & CHIC.

It will be the group's first appearance in North Wales since performing in Rhyl in 2015. C&T co-founder Peter Taylor added: “As a live act, Madness presents the epitome of fun. They have this amazing ability to bring audiences together for your best night out.”

Madness have chalked up 15 UK top 10 singles – including Our House, It Must Be Love and Baggy Trousers – together with ten top 10 albums. Tickets for their concert go on general sale at 9am on Friday, December 1. You can get them at llangollen.net or www.ticketmaster.co.uk

Llangollen Eisteddfod lead programmer Dave Danford said: “Madness are a band that we’ve long wanted to bring to North Wales. Our partnership with Cuffe and Taylor has made this happen, and bringing the Nutty Boys to town will continue the buzz around our festival of peace. With more announcements on the way, it’s clear that Llangollen will be the place to be next summer!”
