Thieves have stolen outboard motors in a crime spree across Anglesey and Gwynedd. Boatowners are being urged to report anyone acting suspiciously.

The warning comes after the sailors' vessels were targeted in Trearddur Bay and Pwllheli earlier this month. Now police are urging mariners to take extra security measures by using CCTV in boatyards and install anti-theft locks.

A North Wales Police spokesman said on the NWP Anglesey Facebook page: "Officers are investigating the theft of outboard motors from boats in Pwllheli between November 16th and 17th, and Trearddur Bay between November 21st and 22nd. Individuals should consider the use of anti-theft locks, marking valuable items, CCTV surveillance and removing high value items when not in use."

The spokesman added: "We ask the community to be vigilant for suspicious activity in boat yard and marine service areas. Anyone with information that may assist in our investigations should contact the police via our website or by calling 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers, quoting reference 23001150527."
