Below you can find out about the biggest project the company has take on when a couple came in with huge renovation plans.

Peninsula Windows' largest project to date

Peninsula’s largest-ever installation was completed following eight phases. It all started with a visit to Fron Goch Garden Centre, when Mike and Sue Brown admired the extension to the award-winning Restaurant Peninsula Windows installed.

When the couple bought Far Horizons in Llandudno, they knocked down the existing bungalow and built their dream home. However, several years later they decided to extend their first-floor kitchen and let in more light by adding floor-to-ceiling windows with a frameless balcony to bask in the glorious panoramic views across the sea to Anglesey, Puffin Island and Snowdonia.

On the ground floor, a sunroom was created with a single-glazed glass curtain with infrared heating. They also wanted to replace an old white PVCu porch, to create a modern aluminium open plan porch, with an electronic door that could be accessed by a keypad or mobile app.

Peninsula Windows redesigned the original plans and carried the floor-to-ceiling windows from the kitchen through to the lounge and extended the balcony to run the full length which created a cohesive look to the exterior.

Also part of the first phase was a complete rebuild of the painted steel balconies, which were showing signs of rust. To minimise visible steel framing, the team used stainless steel tie bars to suspend new galvanised steel decking floors with frameless glass balustrades. Phase three was the realisation that a void under the house could act as a basement for an internal lift to access all three levels, as well as creating a larger sunroom for the Browns. Peninsula Windows built the lift shaft to accommodate the lift, which was the second lift installation the company had ever overseen.

Phase four was changing most of the windows to include slimline sliding doors to the front first floors to maximise the views. All the other windows were either replaced in slimline aluminium or refurbished/ re-sprayed to match.

Mike Brown said: “The original extension plan was about creating the extra space we wanted, and it developed organically from there to create a forever home for Sue and myself, and we are very delighted with the end result.”

Sue continues: “This was Mike’s initial vision and Peninsula was able to turn the dream into reality. They’re so different from other builders and from the moment the team started they worked extremely hard, and I’d particularly like to compliment Scott, one of Peninsula’s installers. Finally, special thanks must go to Ken for being so accommodating in allowing us to change the plans as we progressed. His advice was a great help, and he had a very “can do” attitude throughout the project.”

Peninsula Windows oversaw the whole project where the roof was replaced, the decking renewed, as well as the landscaping of the garden. The property's boat house was also renovated.
