Pesky things those noodles; they twist and turn when you poke at them and stick together like glue when you try and break them apart. Or so say the Chopstix Noodle team, who claim to know a thing or two about Pan-Asian quick service food.

Chopstix owners Sam Elia and Menashe Sadik first launched their business in London, selling fish and chips, pizza and kebabs. They then added Chinese and Pan-Asian food to their menu, which resulted in their first stand-alone Chopstix opening in 2002. They now have over ninety stores throughout the UK, with new stores having just opened in both Wrexham and Rhyl.

Their noodles and toppings are always available in the wok inspired Bain Marie displays and they claim that with their super simple ordering system that they can serve their customers in under a minute. Yep, you heard that right, under a minute! That brings a new element to the term ‘fast food’.

Even though noodle dishes are simple, they are jam packed with Asian flavours. You basically order a small, medium or large box, which either includes a base of either noodles, egg fried rice or skinny rice.

You then add a topping from a choice of zesty lemon chicken, BBQ chicken, chicken katsu curry, caramel drizzle chicken, Chinese chicken curry, pumpkin katsu curry, sweet and sour chicken, salt n pepper chicken and Teriyaki beef. We upgraded to a meal deal, which meant adding three spring rolls each with a cold drink but you could also add prawn crackers, crispy chicken balls, salt and pepper potatoes or churros.

The food delivery took longer than a minute, but that could be down to us, as we didn’t know what we were doing. The food does seem fresh though as it virtually jumps from the Wok to your takeaway cardboard box.

I order the caramel drizzle chicken with a base of vegetable noodles. The caramel sauce is the perfect combination of a little heat and a little sweet.

The slightly spicy and sticky caramel sauce that coats the chicken balls was tasty and very moreish. I decide to try chopsticks but soon revert to a knife and a fork.

It’s impossible not to make an undignified slurping noise as you suck the noodles out of your tray. It’s also quite difficult not to spill a few drops onto your shirt as well, although that just could be me.

My wife went for a very tasty Teriyaki beef, which was the topping over a noodle base. It tasted very authentic with a hint of soy sauce, ginger, garlic and chilli. The Asian beef was super tender and melted in her mouth. She enthused about the quality of the noodle dish as she wasn’t expecting simple takeaway nosh to taste this good.

It made us want to try the other chicken options next time. The noodle-based dishes seem fairly healthy considering it is a fast-food takeaway meal.

We ate our noodles on a dining table underneath a bright neon sign and noticed the venue was spotlessly clean throughout. There was a milkshake and sweet bar with hot drinks next to a bright lime green wall in the other side of the room so there are plenty of sweet options available.

We were both quietly impressed with the quality and tastiness of the noodle bar even though we both didn’t really get the hang of the chopsticks. However, the Chopstix Noodle Bar certainly takes the term fast food to another level, especially if you know what are you are doing or ordering.
