A North Wales beach is the best in Britain to visit according to the AA. The national roadside association has ranked Abersoch beach top, beating all the competition.

The AA has created a nationwide index of the best seaside destinations to drive to, based on a range of criteria including beach quality, visitor reviews, distance to the nearest town, dog friendliness, petrol cost and parking.

Abersoch, on the Llŷn Peninsula, takes the crown with an overall index rating of 7.03, ahead of Seilebost Beach, in Scotland, which was second with 6.88 and and Freshwater West beach in Castlemartin, South Wales, which was third, with 6.87. Black Rock Sands, in Gwynedd, was also ranked 9th, scoring 6.45, Harlech was 11th with 6.37 and Benllech beach 13th, scoring 6.27.

The AA survey describer Abersoch beach as: "A picturesque Welsh location, top place goes to this sandy beach which is dog friendly and also manned by lifeguards.
