Inside the eerie Welsh tunnel that was was sealed off decades ago
Many cars were abandoned in the tunnel before it was sealed off

An eerie valleys railway tunnel which was sealed off more than 60 years ago in now only home to rusting and burned out cars. Morlais Tunnel in Merthyr Tydfil was built in 1879 and was one of several infrastructure projects to be commissioned in the area towards the end of the 19th century.
The two-track line that ran through the tunnel was 1,037 yards long and 80 feet below ground at its deepest point and was used until 1958 when it was closed along with several other lines and tunnels across the country during this period.

Since then, the tunnel has become derelict, its entrances on both sides blocked off with walls containing a few ventilation holes.
Pictures taken recently from inside the tunnel show that around half a dozen cars were driven into it before it was secured, adding to the eerie quality of this long-abandoned site.
