Course Description

AIH1004 - In today's complex world, women often overlook their well-being while managing multiple roles and responsibilities. This course provides a holistic approach to woman health and wellness through the principles of Ayurveda, helping women reconnect with themselves and prioritize their health and wellness. It is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of women, focusing on key areas such as healthy menstruation, care of new mothers, hormonal balance, self-care, beauty, and graceful aging.  The course offers practical, easy-to follow guidance on nutrition, daily routines, lifestyle choices, and the use of Ayurvedic herbs, empowering participants to take control of their health and well-being from menarche to menopause. In addition to physical health, participants will explore mental well-being, stress management techniques, strategies for improving sleep, and the development of personalized self-care routines. This course Comprising 11 weekly classes, emphasizes a holistic Ayurvedic approach, fostering the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of women.

Vaidya Vandana Baranwal is a doctor of Ayurveda specializing in Women’s health. She holds an MD in Ayurvedic Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga (PTSR) from the Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. With almost 30 years of experience and a decade-long practice in the USA, she has founded Ayurvedatri LLC – Women Wellness Solutions for women’s health and well-being.

Course Learning Objectives

In this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of Ayurveda and concepts of doshas, Agni, and Ama, and implement them for unique needs of women at every stage of life.
  • Manage Menstrual and Hormonal Health through Ayurvedic remedies, dietary practices, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Analyze the concept of Prakriti and apply them to create personalized holistic approach for optimal health.
  • Design Effective Self-Care Routines that encompass physical, mental, and emotional well-being, including stress management and sleep improvement.
  • Identify and formulate common Ayurvedic herbs and formulations to promote women’s health, beauty and wellness.
  • Design a personalized wellness plan for rejuvenation and healthy aging.

Course Content

Ayurveda promotes health and well-being through a deeply personalized approach. This course will introduce the foundational principles of Ayurveda, including doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and Agni- Ama, and explain how these concepts apply to the unique physical, emotional, and hormonal transitions that women experience in different phases of their life. Participants will explore Ayurvedic practices for adolescent care, including balanced diet recipes from classical texts to promote healthy menarche and menstrual cycles (Ritu Chakra) and guidelines for menstruating women (Rajaswala Paricharya) – a practical do’s and don’ts list as described in Ayurvedic texts.
In addition to addressing stress, sleep, hormonal imbalances participants will gain practical tools for managing emotional well-being through Ayurvedic practices. To enhance learning many unique approaches of Ayurveda such as Sutika Paricharya (postpartum care) protocol after childbirth, and Rasayana Chikitsa (rejuvenating care) for menopausal women and healthy aging will be discussed. The course will highlight key herbs and formulations from classical Ayurvedic texts, empowering participants to apply these teachings for their well-being. By the end of the course, participants will have developed a personalized blueprint for integrating Ayurvedic wisdom into their lives, fostering self-care, balance, immunity and long-term vitality at every stage of life.

Class Structure

There will be a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week for 11 weeks.
The class is structured in a way that promotes interactive teaching, reference readings, discussion and debate. Interesting practical assignments to give hands on experience of Ayurveda guidelines in women’s wellness. Each class will be comprised of 1 hour teaching and 30minutes for interaction on the topic. During the course, students will complete time to time assignments.
