Overview
HUA’s Master of Arts in Hindu Studies (MAHS) offers a comprehensive foundation in Hindu philosophy, culture, and traditions, designed for those seeking a deep understanding of Hinduism in both theoretical and applied contexts. The program features a unique blend of academic rigor and practical experience, including a Field-Based Study component that encourages students to learn through traditional settings. Students are supported by a wide range of course offerings, personalized advisement, and mentorship from distinguished faculty. Graduates are equipped for careers in community education, interfaith dialogue, and community leadership, or for further academic pursuits. Curriculum Structure
The MA in Hindu Studies is a 36-credit (12 course) degree program. Full time students complete the program in 2 years. Students who wish to pursue a Masters with Honors write a Master’s Thesis. The Master’s Thesis is required for students wishing to continue on to the DHS. Both the MA and the MA with Honors must be completed within 5 years.
Tuition
The fee for Master of Arts in Hindu Studies (MAHS) is $500 per credit. The total program fee would be $18,000

HUA recommends that students enroll in at least 2 classes per semester, beginning the first semester after they have been accepted. Students who may find that they need to postpone their start date should contact the admissions office at admissions@hua.edu to apply for a deferment.
List of Required Documents for Application
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. As part of the admission application process, candidates are required to submit transcripts that provide a comprehensive academic record, encompassing all completed undergraduate and graduate coursework. Applicants must ensure that each institution awarding postsecondary-level course credits is added to their application, including degree-granting institutions, postgraduate courses, and study abroad programs. All transcripts must clearly display full course titles, credit hours, and final grades.
Applicants should submit a statement of purpose (800-1000 words) detailing their background in Hinduism, including any formal education, personal study, or instruction by traditional Hindu teachers. They should also articulate their reasons for pursuing the MA program at HUA, with reference to the program’s objectives, and how they envision their studies contributing to their personal and scholarly growth.
Applicants should submit two letters of recommendation from professional, academic, or other references who can speak to their skills, attitudes, and knowledge relevant to their potential success as graduate students in the MA program at HUA.
