Botanical Babe Plants is a houseplant shop and café located in Llandudno. They sell a large range of houseplants and offer workshops including terrarium-making classes and re-potting sessions.

Tesni, the owner, started the business during the pandemic and began by selling cuttings of her plants. She also offers tips on keeping them alive, which would be an essential bit of info for me.

The café was recently named as one of the best spots to drink and buy speciality coffee. Botanical Babe was in the first guide dedicated to Wales' booming coffee culture.

Indy Coffee Guide Wales featured independent Welsh coffee shops, cafes, roasteries and trainers and ‘Botanical Babe’ was named as one of the businesses serving a top-notch brew. The café on Mostyn Street certainly grabs your attention as the place is packed full of plants and is an oasis of green leaves and nature.

You have to fight your way through a jungle of plants just to find the coffee counter. You will eventually find it staffed with very friendly people who will take your order and deliver it to your table of choice.

I stare at the array of filled croissants, mixed berry Danish pastries and feta rolls, which are all vying for your attention amongst the greenery. It’s a heady mix between a feast for the eyes and one for your senses. If you want something more savoury, then you can choose a toast topper made with sourdough or a cream cheese bagel.

They also offer an array of toasted paninis’ including salami, pickle, mustard or cheese or red pepper, goats’ cheese and chutney. There are cakes galore with chocolate orange truffles, lemon drizzles, traybakes, brownies and a Victoria slice.

There were plenty of vegan choices on offer as well. In fact, the sticky toffee biscoff cake we had was vegan. It had a lovely hint of spiced ginger in the middle of a moist toffee sponge.

It was topped with a super-rich, vegan Biscoff cream cheese icing and drizzled with a Biscoff spread crumble. All the cakes looked real show stoppers to be honest and I had real problems making up my mind due to the magnificent choice - in the end I gave in to nostalgia with my choice of a Caramac crispy cake.

It had a dense crispy crunchy base that was topped with a delicious creamy caramel gooey covering. It was moreish and something I could eat again and again. Sadly, I later read that the manufacturer is discontinuing the classic Caramac chocolate bar, so grab it whilst you can.

You can see why the cafe is listed in the coffee guide. The coffee was served in an eco-cup with no handle. It contained one of the best-tasting creamy chocolate mochas that I have sipped in years. My wife also had a beautiful milky frothy coffee, which I was told tasted just as good.

The houseplants look amazing and the greenery of nature is a sight to behold. The aroma of nature blends with the fresh smell of coffee with one of the best-tasting caffeine hits we have encountered in years.

So, whether you have green fingers or prefer chocolate fingers, this café will have something for you. Botanical Babe has just over 48,000 followers on TikTok. Not bad for a café full of houseplants.
