Wrexham AFC utility man George Evans has shown plenty of his undoubted quality during his time at the club so far followng his move from Championship side Millwall at the start of September. The 28-year-old Cheadle-born man was a rock at the back against Notts County last weekend and is expected to figure in this weekend's FA Cup first round tie at Mansfield (Saturday, 7.45pm kick off).

Speaking to North Wales Live, Evans talked of his desire to progress in this season's FA Cup as well as revealing his favoured position. He also heaped praise on the club's fans - hailing them as the best he's played for.

Evans said: "The FA Cup is massive, everyone wants a good cup run and get to the third round and get a big game. We can't take any competition lightly but hopefully we can progress and get a big tie later on."

Evans continued: "Mansfield are a really good side, when we played them last month (a 0-0 draw in League Two) they were strong and they showed real quality. We'll review the clips though and see what we can do better - we'll put that into practice and put that into a good performance."

Evans has shown his versatility on many occasions so far in his time at the club. When asked what his favourite position is he revealed he favours a role in front of the back three but is happy to play anywhere centrally.

He said: "That deep lying central midfielder is probably my favourite position but I like being in the centre of the pitch whereever that may be. Being in the middle of defence is similar to that midfield role anyway, I feel very comfortable in there."

Evans was keen to praise the club's fans for their backing since his arrival at the club a couple of months ago. The 28-year-old has played for the likes of Reading, Derby County and Millwall but says the Reds support is the best he's played in front of.

He said: "It's been incredible, I knew what to expect when I came here. But I have to say they've been first class.

"From that first game at Tranmere, I didn't expect it to be as good as this. They've spurred us on so much and it's probably the best crowd I've played in front of."
