Five UK brands want to come to a Welsh seaside town right now. The owners of Parc y Llyn retail park in Aberystwyth want to get a tenant in its former Carpetright building.

The brand closed the store in 2019 and it has been empty since then. But the park shopping owners are being held back by the conditions on what can be sold at the store.

These mean that only "bulky goods" can be sold from the site - larger items like furniture, floor coverings or big electrical items. The park owners say that if they can get this condition changed they have a good chance of filling the unit.

They engaged property advisors Edgerley Simpson Howe(ESH) who have written to confirm which brands currently want space in the town - and would be interested in this unit.

The consultants said there were five chains wanting to come to the town or after more suitable units than they currently have.

These include fashion and homeware chain TK Maxx who don't currently have a store in the university town. Budget brand Farmfoods are also actively looking for space.

In addition Aldi and Poundland would like to either relocate or add to their portfolio according to the advisors. Aldi have been trying to develop a new store but lost a planning battle with Welsh Government.

The final name is Snap Fitness, a UK gym group.

Henry Phipps, from ESH, said: "As far as I am aware none of these national multiple operators are capable of trading under the existing bulky good planning consent. You would therefore require a change of use to accommodate their requirements."

An application has been lodged with Ceredigion County Council.
