As the first frosts of the winter set in motorists have been warned about setting off with iced up windows. At this time of year it can take an extra five minutes to get the car ready to go after a heavy frost.

But police have highlighted a case that shows failing to do that could be very costly. As well being a huge potential danger to you and other drivers it can lead to a fine and even a ban.

Police Scotland put out images this week of the windscreen and other windows on a car stopped by officers last winter. It saw the driver found guilty of dangerous driving, fined £500 and given a 12-month driving ban.

They warned other drivers not to make the same mistake. Here is the latest weather forecast for North Wales.

Insp Gavin McHallum urged other drivers to make sure their windscreens were clear before setting off.

He said: "As we move into the winter months and a drop in temperatures I hope this case acts as a reminder of the importance of ensuring your vehicle is in a safe condition to be driven on our roads.

"It is absolutely vital that there is no snow or ice on your windows before you set off so please take the time to properly clear your vehicle because if you cannot see clearly you are putting yourself and others on the road at risk."
