Brits spend almost £6billion on glasses and sunglasses a year on average, with Gen Z and millennials spending a third more than baby boomers, according to new research from Vision Express. When it comes to admitting how many pairs of glasses they own, a quarter of Gen Z own more than three pairs of glasses but a huge one in 10 even own six pairs or more.

Top reasons for owning multiple pairs of glasses include the fear of breaking/losing them, help matching outfits to frames and to help transition between seasons.

It appears the nation is influenced by celebrity trends when it comes to choosing their glasses, with a fifth of Brits saying they would be more likely to wear glasses if their favourite celebrity did and and one in five admitting their fashion purchases are influenced by celebrities.

But that's not the only thing Brits are influenced by when it comes to fashion purchases, as nearly a third (28 per cent) of Gen Z name TikTok as the first place they go to for style inspiration, compared to millennials who still use Instagram (24 per cent) as their go-to. Baby boomers are less in favour of social media for inspiration, with magazines their most popular source of inspiration (8 per cent).

Love Island couple, Alex and Olivia Bowen have partnered with Vision Express to curate their Second Pair Collection, taking inspiration from some of the nation’s most iconic glasses wearers, including Audrey Hepburn, Elton John and Kim Kardashian. Vision Express polled the nation on their favourite glasses wearers with the top spots including Elton John, Alan Carr, Audrey Hepburn, Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, Greg Davies and Bono.
