Tucked away in a quiet corner of the beautiful Welsh countryside, yet just a short drive from the A55, is the picturesque village of Llanfair Talhaiarn. Straddling the River Elwy, the small village of less than a thousand people is home to a shop, two pubs and a fantastic cafe.

Having heard excellent things about Olivia's, and the weather being kind for once this month, I decided to give the place a visit and enjoy my food by the river. I arrived at around 1pm and the village was full of people taking advantage of the beautiful conditions and there were plenty of families sitting by the river.

The cafe itself was busy as well, with the seating area almost full. After a look at the fantastic, varied menu I decided to go for the burger, chips and salad.

After a short wait, my food was ready and the service was very friendly and brisk. The lady serving even gave me some cutlery and offered as many condiments as I could carry.

I decided to take a seat by the beautiful river which meanders its way through the heart of the village. It really is a stunning place to spend an hour or two, especially on a sunny day.

I opened the packaging and took a look at the goods. To be fair, I thought maybe £9.50 was a fair price for a good portion size and although I'm admittedly not a huge fan of salad, I decided to give it a try along with my calorific haul.

The burger was absolutely tremendous - proper, locally sourced beef patty in a deliciously soft bap with a smattering of mouth-watering cheddar on top. The fries were fantastic as well - think real restaurant fries rather than the kebab-shop-style variety.

Overall, the food was superb and well-worth the £9.50. The added bonus of enjoying it whilst taking in the beautiful surroundings was a real delight also. Bendigedig.
