With the last Wilko in North Wales closing today we asked readers who they wanted to replace the brand. The region has lost six Wilko's - in Rhyl, Wrexham, Holyhead, Porthmadog, Llandudno and Pwllheli.

The collapse of Wilko will therefore leave big gaps on high streets and retail parks. But it will also offer an opportunity to other brands to come to towns where they're not currently represented.

Our readers peppered us with ideas and favourites, with more than 500 responses on social media. There were a couple of standout answers - although one no longer exists! Here's what people had to say:

Primark:

This was definitely the most popular response with dozens of mentions of the low cost clothing retailer on social media. The brand wouldn't work at some locations like Llandudno and Wrexham where there are already stores but shoppers think it would give other places a major boost.

Dylan Owen said "Primark in the Holyhead store" while Michelle Cullen said "Primark in Rhyl or Prestatyn". Alice Williams put in two requests, saying: "In Holyhead they should build a Primark at the old Pets at Home/Peacocks store and then a Hobby Craft at old Wilkos."

Amy Johnsen added: "Bigger Poundland or Primark. Also the fact that people are begging Primark for more stores and they cant see the money in it is baffling. I have to spend £20 to just go to Primark. That's why i only go once or twice a year."

Hobbycraft

A Hobbycraft store, one of more than 100 in the UK.
Hobbycraft has more than 100 stores in the UK.

While not quite marching Primark this was another popular answer. The nearest site is currently in Chester so it could be time for the arts and craft shop to step across the border.

Heulwen Venables said: "Hobbycraft in Wrexham." Gemma Pell-Fallowell said: "Holyhead: The Range, Hobbycraft, Primark."

The long shots:

Harrods - The upmarket London department store had a couple of cheeky mentions but we're not expecting them to rock up anytime soon. Waitrose was the other upmarket brand mentioned and they currently only have one store in the region - in Menai Bridge. There are potential other places the chain would go down well although the grocery market is pretty saturated.

Back from the dead......

The old Woolworths store in Conwy

No debate on retail can take place without a mention of this old favourite. Woolies collapsed into administration a good 14 years ahead of Wilko but people still have a soft spot for the brand.

Many would love it to make a triumphant return to our high streets but the odds on that happening would be very generous.

Parker Jane-nikki said: "Woolworths, bring it back." Louise Singleton added: "If we can't get Woolworths back then Dunelm."
