A teenager left a soldier fighting for his life after stabbing him. James Owen Rees, 19, of Lon Isallt in Trearddur Bay, left Chris Griffith for dead in an alleyway in the Tan-yr-Efail area of Holyhead on January 7 last year.

Mr Griffith, who was serving in the Royal Welsh Regiment at the time of the attack, was found by a friend before being rushed to hospital for life-saving surgery. Rees has now been convicted of with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article following a trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a sentencing hearing, which will take place on December 21. Detective Constable Leslie Ellis, of North Wales Police, said: “I welcome [Thursday's] verdict.
