Lovers of electronic dance music will be spoilt for choice next summer with two major festivals confirmed for Anglesey. Balmy summer days might seem a distant prospect right now but next June the island will become a party venue for music fans.

Making its 14th outing in 2024 will be the boutique Gottwood Festival at the Carreglwyd Estate, near Llanfaethlu. Playing two weeks later will be Save The Rave, billed at the UK’s biggest outdoor 90s festival and sporting some legendary rave acts.

First established in Southport, Merseyside, in 2021, Save The Rave has been expanding its venues and will next year make it debut in Wales. Hosting the one-day event on Saturday, June 29, will be the Mona Showground near Gwalchmai.

For one day the showground will become a riot of tie-dye, centre partings and glow sticks as festivalgoers recall the best of the Ibiza and rave scenes. The in-person line-up has yet to be announced but the DJ set is likely to include songs from acts such as Fatboy Slim, Faithless, Ultra Nate, Baby D, Livin’ Joy and The Chemical Brothers.

Rave nostalgia emerged during the Covid pandemic as music lovers reclaimed the culture of furtive underground gatherings. Save The Rave brought the scene into the mainstream and thousands now attend its festivals, with five planned across Britain in 2024.

As well as plenty of retro 90’s anthems, the Anglesey (Ynys Môn) festival is promising “jaw-dropping visuals” and high quality stage production. Street food trucks and stalls will be on site too. The event runs from 12pm to 10pm.

Early bird tickets for the event went on sale this morning (Thursday, November 9). Main ticketing provider Skiddle is selling them for £25.44, which includes the booking fee. VIP tickets are also available for £47.44. This offers access to a VIP bar, VIP area and “VIP toilets” – and enables queue jumping. You can find tickets here.

The four-day Gottwood festival is a little earlier in the month, on June 13-16. It’s pricier at around £200 per ticket – but this is designed as a “boutique” event with quality facilities and an extensive line-up.

To ensure the event retains its intimate atmosphere, the festival is capped at 5,000 people. Nine stages are arranged around a lake encircled with fairy and neon lights to create a “mystical” aura in the surrounding woodlands. It is, says its founders, a “little party hidden in the middle of the woods”.

It typically attracts around 250 electronic artists spanning a variety of genres. This year’s line-up ranges from Dr Banana to Primal Scream bassist Simone Marie.

“Phase 1” tickets have just dropped for Gottwood. Early bird tickets cost £193.20 (including booking fee). 1st release tickets are £204.50. Both expire on November 14. Deposit tickets are also available to help spread the cost. Gottwood details are here.
