There's been a huge boost in virtual quizzing throughout lockdown.

This is due to coronavirus restrictions and has provided many of us with an opportunity to socialise with either family or friends - albeit over WhatsApp or Zoom etc.

The surge in quizzers has led to a demand for question inspiration and so over the last few months we've produced some of our own quizzes - as both a template but also to test our readers' knowledge.

This has included trivia on landmarks, geography, TV and film, as well as on the Highway Code.

We've also produced history quizzes that have featured trivia on world leaders, monarchs and gangsters.

There is always so much to learn from the past though so we thought we'd create another quiz on this subject - to further expand your knowledge of history.

This latest instalment has 21 questions which will test your understanding of the past from around the 14th century to the present day.

We've made sure to showcase a range of references - covering a variety of periods, people and events.

It includes trivia on politics, world records, prohibition and even a few references to popular culture.

During the American Civil War, the Confederacy fought against a collective known as what?

There should be something to appeal to everyone, whether you prefer older history or more recent events.

The questions are of varying difficulties, so you should be able to answer at least a few correctly.

And as always there are multiple choice answers which makes the challenge a little bit easier anyway.

So now it's your opportunity to prove how much you actually know about the past - and who knows, maybe you'll learn something along the way as well?

Good luck and don't forget to share your score on social media.
